Unfamiliar Street

As part of the #YeahYouWriteStrange event at Someday Bar, Megan Rickerson (owner of Someday Bar) and Lisa Amico Kristel (co-planner of #YeahYouWrite with Robin Martin) designed #LiteraryCocktail recipes for each of us writers (me, Leopoldo Gout, Randee Dawn, and Karen Heuler). Here’s the one that they designed for me. It was a delicious honor to receive.

Richard Butner / The Adventurists / Unfamiliar Street

This #LiteraryCocktail is a riff on a classic Boulevardier, containing almost the same ingredients with an unsettling twist. It should impart the same feeling one gets when reading stories from The Adventurists: almost everything seems about the same, but some things look or feel (or taste) …altered.

Unfamiliar Street

1 ¼ oz dark chocolate-washed Redemption High Rye Bourbon (organic free trade shade-grown by communists chocolate?)

1 oz Campari

1 oz Method Rosso Sweet Vermouth

dash Angostura Bitters

Stir all ingredients in a mixer with ice. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube and garnish with a Luxardo cherry. Before you taste, prepare to be transported to a subtly “other” somewhere—with spaces where things no longer are, waterfalls and giant mushrooms, and a visit to your past, an altered present, or a glimpse of a strange future. Bring along your Polaroid camera, and remember: beware the jester.
